MAFA: Żebbuġ Youngsters return to winning ways

-

Żebbuġ Youngsters returned to winning ways in style as they saw off a mighty Mosta Vikings side 20.

The Youngsters didn't find the going easy as the Vikings defended boldly and gave little chance to their opponents who tried to dominate possession.

As the first half finished in a goalless draw, the second half was a different story with Jason Woodhead who came to the fore to score two quickfire goals and give the most important three points for his team.

In the first goal he received a good ball from Rodriguez whilst producing a grounder that beat the Vikings goalkeeper.

Woodhead doubled the score on the hour with a fine lob to rubberstamp his team's tenth victory of the season.

In the match of the weekend, San Ġwann Pro Evolution Academy obtained a massive 5-0 win over Mqabba Albions to keep the pressure on the leaders.

It was a match that the Academy dominated from start to finish with Mqabba who were unrecognizable from their last outing against the Youngsters.

Raphael Courroux and Alexander Courroux were in fine form as they notched a brace while Louis Swann Vachet added another one to their tally.

Balluta Barracudas had to battle hard to obtain the most important points as they edged Żejtun Laċċi 3-2. The latter produced a very positive performance and they were unlucky not to get at least a point from this encounter.

Glenn Formosa opened the score for Żejtun with Jorge Benites levelling the matters for Balluta.

In the second half, Jamie Dimech scored the Cudas' second goal with Juan Scerri responding on 54 minutes.

Despite all this, Żejtun's joy was shortlived as Balluta scored the winning goal through Andrew Tortell.

A goal scored by Nwankwo Moses Chijoke was enough for Naxxar Victorians to register their fourth win of the season as they saw off Fgura Spartans 1-0. The latter defended well against their more quoted opponents although they had to succumb to the 34 minute goal.

Naxxar are now on the 12 point mark with Fgura still joint second from bottom with Mosta Vikings.

In the MAFA Third Division, Żabbar Southsiders failed to go on top of the table as they could only register a 0-0 scoreline against Gudja Wanderers. Both teams tried to get something from this match but the respective defensive department was solid and little conceded any favours.

With this draw, Żabbar are now second with 17 points alongside Ta' Ġiorni Wanderers while Gudja Wanderers joined Birkirkara St Joseph on the six point mark.
