A boost to employee’s wellness

- RITIENNE BORG GRECH Ritienne Borg Grech, Senior Leader, Human Resources

Wellness activities are essential to keep our employees happy and productive.

The Agency believes that by investing in robust health and wellness programs employees feel engaged and cared for. The key to have a successful wellbeing program at work is to encourage overall wellness whilst retaining the fun element.

As part of the wellbeing initiatives the HR Function has raised awareness through the following events:

WOMEN’S DAY

– 8th March 2022

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” (Mother Teresa).

Our aim is to make an impact, to make ripples in the work that we do. Making a difference for the better locally, to change the lives of women and children one ripple at a time.

Marked annually on March 8th, International Women’s Day is one of the most important days of the year to celebrate women’s achievements and raise awareness.

We believe that charity should begin at home but must not stay there. Quite deliberately, this year the Agency took a different approach in commemorating the day via a CSR Activity.

MITA CSR reached out to help SOAR. SOAR, is a support service within the St Jeanne Antide Foundation, targeting women and children’s survivors of domestic violence who are trying to restart their lives in the community.

SOAR has a Survivors’ Hub which is a townhouse set in the heart of Tarxien village. This Hub needs extensive renovation before it becomes a day centre offering a range of services to women. Prior to all this, the foundation had the need to clean its garden, and this is where our CSR activity took place. Through a call for female (and male) volunteers, the day started with the group giving a helping hand in cleaning their garden of overgrown plants.

EARTH DAY

– 22nd April 2022

“The Earth is what we all have in common.” (Wendell Berry, Novelist)

Earth Day being held on April 22nd, is used to celebrate Earth and bring awareness to environmental sustainability.

The first Earth Day was held in 1970 in the United States. Since then, it has grown into an internationally celebrated event in more than 200 countries across the globe. It’s the perfect time to remember to appreciate Earth and commit to making big and small changes to protect it.

Beach pollution is one of the biggest controversial issues in the new era. It not only affects the habitat of the marine life where the animal’s habitat is being ruined but is also affecting various habits and humans. Overcoming beach pollution is a tough obstacle, but with the power of all individuals, beach coastlines should take a much better view.

To demonstrate support towards this green initiative MITA, in collaboration with Obstacle Couse Academy (OCA), organised a community clean-up day outside the Agency’s parameters at Majjistral Park, Golden Bay. This served to educate and improve our environmental issues locally.

The OCA is an international based training camp mainly focused on delivering obstacle style fitness training and adventures.

Following a call for volunteers, several employees joined this green initiative. The day started with an adventure walk that lead to a remote beach where coastal zone cleaning was carried out.

By the end of the day, the group filled numerous bags of waste that mostly consisted of used plastic bottles and polystyrene items. During this event, appropriate health and safety measures were taken into consideration. “

A heartfelt thanks goes to all volunteers as without their interest, effort and support such activities will not be possible. Until the next one…
