-

The Sagħtar Foundation has launched a digital app of the popular Sagħtar magazine with an investment of €20,000 from the Voluntary Organisations Projects Scheme (VOPS).

The investment was issued by the Ministry for Inclusion, Voluntary Organizations and Consumer Rights.

Minister for Inclusion Julia Farrugia Portelli said that the VOPS scheme incentivizes and helps voluntary organisations to be sustainable and continue to innovate.

She said that the digitization of the popular magazine has allowed for the Sagħtar Foundation and the Malta Union of Teachers to become ambassadors for the digital core.

“Today, Sagħtar, after 51 years and almost 370 publications, will continue to be renewed and make another leap into the digital world,” Farrugia Portelli said. She added that the magazine is a legacy and a direct investment in the Maltese language and the love for reading.

Chair of the Sagħtar Foundation Elaine Germani explained that the free app is a continuation of the projects carried out by the foundation, with the aim of continuing to bring Sagħtar to today’s children.

She said that the leap in technology will reach more children, as through the app, they will also be able to listen to the stories in

Maltese while reading them, encouraging reading.

President of the MUT Marco Bonnici said that the union will continue to support the foundation’s work for these initiatives, and through the funds, the MUT will continue to carry out its main purpose of serving a social and educational function among Maltese and Gozitan educators and students.

Chief Executive of the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector Mauro Pace Parascandolo said that with the help of the VOPS scheme funds, the Sagħtar foundation will publish the magazine as a digital publication, to become more accessible and focused on the interactive aspect.
