Maurice Formosa continues his unbeaten run at the Cisk 0.0 MMBA XC National Points Series

-

The second race of the Cisk 0.0 MMBA XC National Points Series took place last Sunday 08th May on Pembroke's rocky coastal zones providing a challenging route to the riders present and resulting in a few having to retire due to punctures suffered along the route.

Maurice Formosa continued his unbeaten run as he led the Elite riders from the starting line throughout the six-lap course, slowly building up a gap ahead of Jason Vella and Stefan Scerri who were chasing each other for a better place on the podium. Vella, who did not have a good start managed to edge his way to the front to chase Formosa who kept the lead throughout. A neck-toneck battle between Vella and Scerri took place, with just seconds separating them. A costly mistake in the last lap saw Vella take advantage and pip Scerri to second place, seventeen seconds ahead.

In the Sport Category, Robert Zammit took the lead in the first lap but was overtaken by Etienne Cutajar in the second lap. Cutajar kept the lead until the finish. Zammit went through the finish line a minute after Cutajar, whilst in third place was Ian Camilleri.

Justin Gauci took the lead in the 40+ Category and went on to take his second win of the season, beating competition from Stephen Grima. Grima also took second place in the previous race. In third place was Liran Ben Ari. The 50+ category was a twohorse race between Enrico Bradamante and Raphael Fenech Adami, with the former taking the win for the day.

There were no surprises in the Ladies Race, with Marie Claire Aquilina easing her way to the finish in the first place. Newcomer Diana Muscat followed in second place with Fiona Tedesco finishing in third, with all three riders finishing with an approximate gap of a minute and a half between them.

In the Junior Categories, Ryan Gatt was the first to finish the U17 Boys Race, whilst Liam Daly, Chylen Fava, and Giuseppe Borg were the first three finishers in the U15 Boys Race. The U12 Boys was a well-attended race with Jake Refalo, Neil Cassar, and Ethan Cumbo finishing in first, second and third place respectively. The U12 Girls saw Nina Debono Curmi, Mickaya Fava, and Mikela Ann Spiteri taking the top places.

The Cisk 0.0 XC National Points Series is sponsored by the awardwinning alcohol-free beer Cisk 0.0, Gatorade, and San Michel and is supported by Malta Cycling Deal and Noel Vella Engineering Works.
