Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club and CORSA sign partnership agreement

-

Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club have signed a partnership agree‐ ment with CORSA that will see the two sporting entities join forces. The objectives that are being sought are two‐fold and which will see initiatives taking place to attract more youngsters to sport, and put Malta on the international sporting map.

Talks between the two entities have been ongoing for a few weeks and an agreement was fi‐ nally reached between Birkirkara St Joseph President Ray Grech and CORSA Director Matthew Pace earlier on this week when the new partnership was rubberstamped.

Birkirkara St Joseph Club Presi‐ dent remarked that the main ob‐ jective of this partnership is to attract more people to sport and increase participation in the Club’s event.

“Our club has a busy sporting calendar that spans throughout the year. It includes road running, cycling, multisport and openwater swimming, so we have quite a big portfolio. In addition to this, our events team provides logistical services to other organisations” commented Grech. “The CORSA team organise a marathon in Malta and we feel that together we have the ability to develop sport in Malta and and attract for‐ eign athletes to our events thus firmly placing Malta on the inter‐ national sporting map.”

Grech expressed his hope that this agreement will encourage sports‐lovers in Malta to start tasting the experience of compet‐ ing in well organised events and “It is our objective to increase the participation numbers from all areas,” Grech said. “In Malta we have a lot of sport being organised and there are many athletes who practise sport alone. It’s no secret that there is more satisfaction when competition is experienced by means of an organised event”.

CORSA Director Matthew Pace said that he was delighted to have partnered with Birkirkara St Joseph which will not only be of benefit to both entities but Mal‐ tese sport in general.

“We are really delighted with this partnership with Birkirkara St Joseph. ‘CORSA’s mission state‐ ment is to promote sports tourism in Malta namely through out flagship events, the La Valette

Marathon and the Challenge Triathlon. Birkirkara St Joseph are a highly professional club, with over four decades of experi‐ ence. The sports calendar in Malta is already congested and therefore coming up with new events and dates would certainly be counter‐productive” stated Pace.

Pace continued to add that the two entities are very much in sync. Having experienced the services provided by the Club at Corsa’s event, a strong relation‐ ship has already been built and there is much to gain from this.

Pace said that the main objec‐ tive behind this agreement is to try and attract the young genera‐ tion to take part in sporting events and in doing that promot‐ ing a healthy lifestyle, particularly in view of the negative statistics surrounding obesity.

The next event to be hosted by Birkirkara St. Joseph and Corsa will be the Go&Fun Olympic Dis‐ tance Triathlon on Sunday 14th May on the Salina Coast Road. Registration is to be done online by not later than Thursday 11th May – www.bsj.mt
