-

The Authority for the Integrity of Maltese Sport (AIMS) has an‐ nounced that it has just signed a cooperation agreement (MoU) with Antidoping Sverige whereby an official collaboration will com‐ mence between Malta and Swe‐ den to address the fight against sports manipulation through doping.

AIMS is the Maltese Authority which is responsible for all dop‐ ing control in our country. It is also responsible for the preven‐ tion of match fixing, good gover‐ nance and the sports regulator in Malta. AIMS has been specifically set up with the scope that all reg‐ ulatory sports are given due im‐ portance.

The signatories of this agree‐ ment were Dr. Luciano Busuttil CEO of AIMS and Christine Halle CEO from Antidoping Sverige. The agreement was witnessed by Mr. Rafal Piechota Director at WADA. Through this collabora‐ tion agreement AIMS’ Doping Control Officers Malta will bene‐ fit from regular training sessions. The agreement also includes the possibility to share resources on the educational sector and on the prevention aspect of doping in Malta. This initiative will be cru‐ cial for Malta so that in the com‐ ing years our country will continue to be in line with the current regulations and obliga‐ tions which came into force in 2021.

Commenting on this agreement Dr. Luciano Busuttil said that ed‐ ucation is the key for the preven‐ tion of the manipulation in sport especially when it comes to the use of illicit substances where in most cases athletes have no knowledge that a certain sub‐ stance they might take would be prohibited by the WADA Code.

Dr. Busuttil said; ‘’This is only the first from a series of similar agreements that we are working on. This agreement will give the necessary tools and much needed resources to organise an educational programme in Malta on this subject which is of utmost importance ’’
