European Boxing Union celebrates 75th anniversary with memorable General Assembly in Malta
The European Boxing Union (EBU) recently marked a signifi‐ cant milestone as 41 delegates convened in Malta to commemo‐ rate the organization's 75th an‐ niversary. The highly anticipated 75th General Assembly was held at a local hotel in Mellieha.
The event began with a warm welcome, as the delegates were personally greeted by the host and organizer. Engaging discus‐ sions on a myriad of intriguing topics further set the tone for an exceptional weekend. On the first day, participants embarked on a short journey aboard the MV Ta'Pinu ferry, departing from the nearby terminal, to explore the enchanting sister island of Gozo. The evening was graced by the presence of Mr. Peter Stucki, the esteemed President of the EBU, who arranged for a special cake to honor the upcoming 90th birth‐ day of the EBU General Secretary.
The official General Assembly commenced on the following day, wherein national delegates from 43 member states were cordially received by the President of the local boxing association, Marc James.
Key topics and decisions emerged from the General As‐ sembly, including the prohibition of Russian and Belarusian resi‐ dents from participating in EBU events, as well as a reevaluation of officials from these countries as judges, referees, and supervisors. The assembly also addressed con‐ cerns surrounding injuries in boxing competitors, their conse‐ quences, anti‐doping measures, and comprehensive reports for the past year.
An esteemed guest, the Honor‐ able Graham Bencini MP, Shadow Minister for Sport and an avid boxing enthusiast, graced the as‐ sembly with his presence. In recognition of his support and warm reception, Bencini received a miniature replica of the illustri‐ ous EBU Championship Belt, rep‐ resenting his dedication to the sport.
The 75th anniversary General Assembly of the European Boxing Union not only provided a plat‐ form for vital discussions and de‐ cision‐making but also served as a momentous occasion to honor the organization's storied history.
