Joseph Muscat must pay for his actions, Repubblika says

-

NGO Repubblika said on Tuesday that former Prime Minister, Joseph Muscat, must pay for his actions.

In a statement, Repubblika referred to a Sunday Times of Malta investigation which revealed another “consultancy” contract that Muscat had entered into - after he had resigned as Prime Minister - with people who had entered into deals with the government that he led.

On Sunday, the newspaper revealed how former Prime Minister, Joseph Muscat, received an €11,800 monthly consultancy contract by casino tycoon, Johann Schembri, less than a year after he oversaw a government deal involving the Dragonara Casino, that went to Schembri’s consortium in 2019.

“The official explanation of this so-called consultancy contract is unbelievable”, Repubblika said.

“Joseph Muscat and his client want us to believe that a company that brings in €13,000 a year selling birds is ready to hire a consultant and get paid almost €12,000 a month.”

“He could have been the greatest genius - which Joseph Muscat is not - but no company pays a consultant ten times what it earns”, continued Repubblika.

It said that Muscat is being allowed to run free, “because whoever is supposed to investigate corruption is afraid of him.”

It said that when someone shows the courage to investigate him, he (Muscat) mobilizes his ‘fanatical supporters’ against them.

“Joseph Muscat threatens magistrates, police and prosecutors because he knows that on the day that everyone does their job, he will have to pay for his actions.”

It added that Muscat also applies the same behaviour towards journalists, as he threatens those “who expose him”.

The civil society group continued by saying that Muscat believes that despite not being the Prime Minister of the country anymore, he can “continue to suck the profits of his regime’s corruption.”

However, Repubblika concluded by saying that it is convinced that thanks to the weight of the truth, the work of journalists and the courage of a few public officials “loyal to their oath, will finally lead to justice in Malta being the same again for everyone”.
