Mapfe Middlesea and MSV Life engage with residents at San Blas Shelter

-

Mapfre Middlesea and MSV Life recently spent some time with the residents of the San Blas Harm Reduction Shelter, as part of the Group’s CSR Programme for 2016.

A group of employees from both companies spent an afternoon with 12 individuals residing at the Shelter, engaging in a series of activities such as gardening and baking. The group then participated in a team-building activity in which residents shared their experience with the employees. Such an event held the aim of allowing residents to feel that they are still part of the community.

Norman Mifsud, chief officer HR & Corporate Services at MSV Life, said: “This CSR initiative was a rewarding opportunity for both the employees and the residents as it helped all those present realise that although life presents us with a number of different challenges, as long we recognise such chal- lenges and have the willpower to act upon them, there will always be hope in life.”

Caritas Malta offers a full-rehabilitation programme for individuals with serious drug-related issues. The Harm Reduction Shelter assists clients in their detoxification process and prepares them for rehabilitation. The Shelter is intended to look and feel like a normal home, with the set up and décor being deliberately as nonclinical as possible.

This event forms part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility Programme, through which the company helps out entities working for the community, both financially and through activities in which employees participate. In the past months, both companies have helped out in different fields in the community – active ageing, social protection and animal welfare.
