An app to help you manage your waste effectively
In its ongoing efforts to help the general public reduce waste and increase its waste separation efforts, the Ministry for Sustainable Development, the Environment and Climate Change has rolled out a new mobile application.
Through the app a user can search for a particular item or product and the app will give information on how to dispose of it correctly. It will also include a collection calendar which will allow the user to see all collection times and dates for organic, recyclable and residual waste in every locality.
A detailed map that highlights the location of Bring-In sites, Civic Amenity Sites and other waste facilities and services that are available to the general public may also be accessed. All this at the touch of a button! This app will also allow users to receive notifications based on individual interests and needs.
The Minister for Sustainable Development, the Environment and Climate Change Jose Herrera launched the application at MCAST, following collaboration from students studying mobile application design who gave their insight and feedback during the testing phase. Some students who participated in the testing were also present at the launch to demonstrate the features of the app.
“This initiative will support government’s continuous efforts to make waste management as easy as possible for everyone. Although the past year has seen a reduction in the total waste that is disposed in the black bag and an increase in waste disposed in the recycling bag, much remains to be done and with everyone’s help we will be in a better position to reach our waste related targets and have a better environment” Minister Herrera stated.
The Don’t Waste Waste app encourages the correct disposal of all waste items through information on collection services and facilities available for waste management. It will also list upcoming relevant events and includes a form which will enable anyone to send in questions and queries.
It is available for download from both the Apple iStore and the Google Play Store. For more detailed information on how to manage your waste please visit www.dontwastewaste.gov.mt
