University of Malta and Malta Enterprise sign Collaboration Agreement

-

Professor Alfred J. Vella, rector of the University of Malta and Mario Galea, chief Executive officer, Malta Enterprise, signed a collaboration agreement wherein Malta Enterprise will be supporting the University’s Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, over the next few years, by funding a post intended to attract a recent graduate who is willing to undertake research as directed by the Thalassaemia Testing and Haemoglobin Research Group within the Faculty.

Malta Enterprise is the country’s economic development agency, tasked with attracting new foreign direct investment as well as facilitating the growth of existing operations. Malta Enterprise has undertaken this initiative as part of the commitment to build capacity to enable Malta to compete in existing international markets by possibly introducing new services or products and also establishing new markets.

The Faculty of Medicine and Sur- gery greatly appreciates this initiative as it further strengthens the current research being undertaken.

Professor Godfrey LaFerla, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and Dr Mario Vella, former chairman of Malta Enterprise and presently Governor of the Central Bank, who had initiated this collaboration, as well as William Wait, chairman Malta Enterprise, were present at the signing ceremony, which was held last week.
