MIA welcomes first flight from Katowice in Poland

-

The first Wizz Air flight from Katowice in Poland hit the tarmac at Malta International Airport last week, marking the launch of the first new route on the airport’s summer schedule.

Flights to the Polish city will be taking off from Malta International Airport every Monday and Friday until October.

Located in south-western Poland, Katowice is around an hour’s drive from Krakow and about 300 kilometres away from major cities including Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest. This makes it an ideal destination for travellers planning to visit a number of European cities in one holiday.

The Katowice route is expected to further enhance MIA’s network with Poland, which already features flights to Gdansk, Krakow, Warsaw, Wroclaw and Poznań. Passengers arriving in Malta from Poland have recently been experiencing a steady increase in numbers, in line with Malta’s strategy to enhance connectivity with Eastern Europe.

As is customary, passengers on board the first flight from Katowice were welcomed by dancers in traditional Maltese costumes. A special cake was also prepared to mark the occasion.

In the coming weeks, Hungarian airline, Wizz Air, will start operating more new routes from MIA including Cluj-Napoca (Romania), Skopje (Republic of Macedonia) and Belgrade (Serbia).
