The third day of the 2017 Tour Malta

The 23rd edition of the Tour of Malta continued with its third stage, with a road race over 60km on the circuit of Nadur, Gozo.

This day saw Marie Claire Aquilina as new leader in the female category. The Greek Lukas Katapodis of Pigasos Cycling Club also kept his red shirt in the Masters while in Elite Matthew Higgins is now the new leader.

The Elite category was won by Henrik Forland of Velostrada Test Team in 1:30:28.05. Matthew Higgins of Mammoth Lifestyle came second in 1:30:29.14, while in Matthew Davies of Rhino Race Team Velo finished third with a time of 1:32:32.48.

The Master’s category was won by Dave Griffits of Mammoth Lifestyle in 1:03:56.61. He was followed in second place by Jim Jones (Velo Vitesse) in 1:03:56.89 and third place went to Ian Knights of Racing Team Raw in 1:03:56.96.

The female category was won again by Elice Sharp (NCC Group Torelli quota) in of 1:07:35.61. In the second place Ellen McDermott (EDCO Continenta­l) in 1:07:35.92, while Stephanie Mottram of NCC Group Iwota Torelli entered third in 1:07:36.49.

At the end of the stage, Joyce Farrugia, director of Sports at the Ministry for Gozo, Alvin Grech, CEO of Gozo Sports Board and Joe Bajada, general secretary of the Malta Cycling Federation presented the medals and red jerseys to the overall leaders. The Malta Tour ended on Sunday with the fourth and last stage on the circuit of St Martin.
