Another EU Contact Committee Network meeting hosted by the National Audit Office (Malta)

Within the framework of the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the National Audit Office (Malta) also hosted the 2017 EU Contact Committee Network on the Europe 2020 Strategy Audits.

The main purpose of this Network, chaired by the Court of Accounts of Portugal, is essentially to serve as a forum whereby EU Supreme Audit Offices (SAIs) share their experiences and knowledge in the audit of Europe 2020 related topics.

Indeed, the Maltese NAO has an active role within one of the Work- ing Groups on Structural Funds falling under this Network.

In his opening address, Josè Pinto Almeida, the Network’s Chair, highlighted the progress achieved by the Network since its setting up in 2009; indeed, this was the seventh seminar organised by the Network and hosted in Malta.

He also made reference to the excellent participation for this seminar - 37 participants coming from 18 national audit institutions across the EU, as well as representatives from the European Court of Auditors.

This was followed by a very wellreceived presentation by the Network’s special guest, Dr Jonathan Vassallo from the Planning and Priorities Coordination Division within the Office of the Prime Minister on the subject Europe 2020 Strategy: Education and Social Cohesion.

The Portuguese Chair extended its heartfelt appreciation to Charles Deguara, Auditor General, and his small but dedicated team, for hosting this seminar within the context of the Maltese Presidency, in such an excellent and hospitable manner.
