Faculty of Engineering exhibition
The upcoming 28th edition of the annual University of Malta Engineering Projects exhibition will showcase the projects carried out by the undergraduate engineering students during the final year of their four-year B.Eng. (Hons) degree programme.
Projects will be on display at the Faculty of Engineering’s various laboratories (University of Malta – Msida Campus) which will be open to the public on Saturday, 1 July from 9am to 1pm and Sunday, 2 July from 9am to 1pm.
The number of exhibits this year amounts to 80. Projects are varied and include the design of airless shut-off nozzles used in cosmetic packaging products, silver steel for aircraft jacking bolts, an attitude control platform for pico satellites (attitude control is a vital part of all satellite systems, providing the necessary control over the orientation of the spacecraft), a cooling fan speed controller for energy efficient temperature control of a race car engine, ship hull structures and the autonomous control of a quadcopter, among many others.
These projects reveal the extent of the diversity of research areas under study at the Faculty of Engineering, and therefore one of the main reasons why the B.Eng. (Hons) degree remains a very attractive and topical course of study at the University of Malta.
Each project is the product of individual work, guided by a supervisor, but produced by the student using the skills acquired over the course of the engineering degree: a capability for technical research, the design and implementation of experiments, the application of scientific methods and the analysis and interpretation of data to obtain valid conclusions.
The Faculty will be opening its doors to formally welcome its industrial partners, alumni, current and prospective students and their parents, as well as the gener- al public, to sample the on-going activities within the Faculty.
This event provides the opportunity for the Faculty to show the ability of its undergraduate students to potential employers, as well as entice prospective students to steer their studies towards a professional degree in engineering.
During this exhibition, prospective students are given the opportunity to directly hear about the experiences of engineering student and discuss with members of staff the meaning of the engineering profession, potential for job opportunities and prospects for eventual further studies.
The Faculty of Engineering offers tuition and supervision at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The degree programmes give graduates job flexibility and the ability to further their studies in various engineering fields at postgraduate level. Past graduates have been enjoying excellent job and postgraduate study opportunities in highly regarded companies and universities worldwide.
