Three degree programmes launched by the Institute of Tourism Studies

-

A lot of work has been done over the last years and is still ongoing, to transform the Institute of Tourism Studies from a leading Tourism and Hospitality Institute in Malta, into a Mediterranean Hub of excellence in the provision of studies in the sector.

The move to the proposed new campus at Smart City, brought with it not only an investment in the physical aspect, but also an academic upgrade. This coming scholastic year, for the first time ever, the Institute of Tourism Studies will also be offering three degree programmes namely in Gastronomy, International Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts. This is a historical moment for ITS. The results of years of academic development will be seen by delivering degree programmes related directly to the hospitality and tourism industry. All this will give students the possibility to advance to the levels of excellence required by the tourism industry.

The Bachelor in Culinary Arts (Hons) in collaboration with the Institut Paul Bocuse (France) will be the first level 6 programme in this area of study offered in Malta. This programme will assist in the development of the professional culinary industry and chefs in the international culinary community.

The second degree programme to be offered is that of Bachelor in International Hospitality Management (Hons) in collaboration with University of Applied Science of Haaga-Helia (Finland). This programme will be the first degree programme with a vocational aspect and hands on experience to be delivered in Malta.

The third degree programme is that of Bachelor in Gastronomy (Hons) in collaboration with The University of Malta. This programme will be the first level 6 programme in this area of study offered in Malta. Graduates of this degree, will be looking at having a career in multiple areas, including but not limited to food science, cultural food studies, health and nutrition and food writing.

Chief Executive Officer of ITS, Pierre Fenech stated “We have signed strategic agreements with top reputable universities and institutions that realised the big potential of the Institute of Tourism Studies and are willing to come on board this journey. The first sign of these agreements can be seen in this prospectus with the launch of the first three degree programmes in collaboration with such institutions. This will give our students not only the possibility to graduate from our reputable institute, but also in the process being able to study for a period of time within these institutions abroad and obtain a wider experience.”
