Historical lectures to be held regularly at Fort Manoel

-

MIDI hosted a lecture ‘Sotto le Loggie – The Lazzaretto: Corsairs at Manoel Island’ which was delivered by Liam Gauci, who is an alumnus of the Department of History at the University of Malta.

The well-attended lecture was held in the chapel dedicated to St Anthony of Padua at Fort Manoel on the 13th June, which also is the feast day of this saint.

Mario Micallef, MIDI’s Administration Manager, welcomed those attending and announced plans for MIDI to hold these lectures on a regular basis

The Fort’s Curator, Architect Edward Said, gave a brief introduction on the restoration of the chapel itself. This was followed by Mr Gauci’s lecture, which described the lives of 18th centu- ry Corsairs whose ships spent many days under the bastions of Fort Manoel at Lazzaretto.

Refreshments and an invitation to fully explore the Fort, which is almost fully restored, rounded off this cultural evening.

Mr Micallef also added that MIDI will very soon be accepting group bookings for tours around Fort Manoel. For further information kindly visit www.midimalta.com
