Etienne Bonello makes it a double in the second Time Trial Race of 2017

-

It was again Etienne Bonello of Team Greens who dominated the second race of the National Championship Time Trial series at the Mtarfa Bypass on a course of eight laps totalling a distance of 21km. Although it was a very hot sunny day, the high wind dominated the course especially on the slightly hilly half part of the lap.

Team Greens dominated also the women category with Michelle Vella Wood clocking the best time in her respective class. Special guest for the races was Petra Wiltshire, three times Masters Downhill World Champion and European and British Champion in Down Hill Mountain biking.

In the Elite category, Bonello finished first in 31:53.45, while Keith Galea of Birkirkara St Joseph finished second in 32:14.07. Alexander Pettett, the Pro Action All Stars rider, completed the eightlap race in a time of 32:30.57. Thus, with one race to go, Bonello is leading with maximum points the classification of this Championship.

The female category was also dominated by Team Greens cyclists where Vella Wood finished first in a time of 35:36.51, with an advantage of 01:54.26 on her colleague Marie Claire Aquilina. Margaret Seguna of The Cyclist finished third with a gap of 06:17.80. In the general classification Aquilina and Vella Wood are leading together with 375 points.

The other categories were won by Nicholas Attard Montaldo ‒ The Cyclists (Juniors) in 35:15.93; Kelvin Goodwin ‒ Agones SFC (Masters 40+) in 35:26.95; Steven Andrew Bell ‒ The Cyclist (Masters 50+) in 34:30.64; Emmanuel Camilleri ‒ Mosta AF Sign Studio CC (Masters 60+) in 39:54.45; Nicholas Micallef ‒ Mosta AF Sign Studio CC (Under 15 M) in 19:18.96 and Kristina Spiteri ‒ The Cyclists (Under 15 F) in 21:36.58; Justine De Giorgio ‒ Mosta AF Sign Studio CC (Under 12 F) in 00:05.35 and Miguel Galea ‒ Team Greens (Under 12 M) in 00:05.35.
