GUG’s 30th anniversary

-

On Sunday, 30 July, the Gozo University Group celebrated its 30year anniversary since it was established in 1987.

In her opening speech, current GUG president Maria Dimech voiced the various points the organisation has worked upon, both by past executives and also by the present team. Dimech emphasised that GUG’s main goal is to make the life of all Gozitan students easier and acknowledged the successful work that GUG has completed.

The Gozo University Group’s main slogan particularly reads Making change easier, which is inspired by the changes in the Gozitan students’ lifestyle and the need for an organisation ready to offer its help and voice students’ chal- lenges.

During the celebration, GUG presented the organisation’s renovated website. Through this facility, students are now able to access this forum via all devices and have an easier and much more efficient accessibility to some of the most useful services such as the Mgarr live-cam, Gozo ferry timetables and bus routes.

Also present for the event were GUG’s first president Josiann Cutajar and former members of the executive throughout these past 30 years. MP Dr Marthese Portelli was also present at the ceremony where she congratulated the present executive for their work and emphasised the importance of such an organisation in our society.

GUG believes that these have been 30 years of success and progress and is positive that in the next years, more challenges faced will be made easier by the GUG team, whose main priority will always be the Gozitan student. The event has shown how such an organisation has built a community which is ambitious and has the best interest of all Gozitans as its main ideal.
