Opportunity to enrol for a BA (Hons) Journalism at MCAST
Last scholastic year the Ministry of Education and MCAST announced the launch of a new B.A. (Hons) in Journalism (MQF Level 6). This course is developed by MCAST and offered in collaboration with the Tumas Fenech Foundation for Education in Journalism.
The course introduces students to the world of journalism. The objective of this course is to train students to become knowledgeable and experienced practitioners in analysing and reporting events that shape our lives as well as the world around us.
As from the first year of its initiation, the course gave current BA Journalism students the opportunity to work on a wide range of life-changing experiences. Students were able to put in practice skills and knowledge in professional reporting by gaining firsthand experiences in various fieldwork.
These experiences involved students to work closely with media professionals for both local and international outputs. Students participated in a work-intensive one-week collaboration with PBS during the Junior Eurovision song contest. Students collaborated closely with local and international broadcast professionals and were entrusted to film, photograph and publish reports on various activities that took place during the event.
BA Journalism students were also entrusted to articulate their experiences of various activities that took place during this year’s European Presidency in Valletta. Together with their professional and dedicated lecturers, students explored, behind the scenes, sev- eral events of the European Presidency and were responsible to submit audio-visual articles and to interview many distinct social and political personalities for broadcast.
The results from such experiences and a good reliable track record of professionalism, granted our Journalism students participation in an Interreg International Conference, held in Malta last April. In this event students were entrusted to feature their audio- visual articles on the International Interreg publication, ‘Panorama’. Yet another important milestone for our students’ Journalism careers that potentially could open towards good prospects for both local and international future work opportunities. Following the course’s first year of success, MCAST are investing heavily in the development of newly built state-of-the art facilities and a sophisticated newsroom space for future journalists. MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts announced the opening of a Journalism Studio by the start of the coming scholastic year in October.
Facilities shall include full access to state-of-the art TV and Radio recording facilities, geared up with latest industry related software and hardware that is used professionally in local and international media industries. Moreover, a fully dedicated location will be set up where students will be able to plan, develop, produce and broadcast media content and publications.
