Maltesers, Galaxy bars and more recalled in Tesco product scare

-

Chocolate which could contain salmonella is among thousands of products recalled by Tesco. The supermarket giant published a list of recalls, including soup and children's toys, as customers are warned to return products to their nearest store as soon as possible. Other reasons for the mass recall are because some of the items may contain metal or glass or because they contained incorrect allergy information. Tesco put the list up on its website and advised customers to return the listed items. Customers have been told they do not need to produce a receipt for the items which include Tesco's creamy leek and bacon cooking sauce, a children's rattle, wooden alphabet pull-along toy and haggis. This included Maltesers and Galaxy bars which have been recalled by the manufacturer over fears certain batches may contain salmonella . Mars Chocolate UK said items from its Galaxy range including the 200g bar, 4x42g multipack, 42g individual bars, Galaxy Counters (112g) and Galaxy Minstrels (118g) and Maltesers Teasers 35g bar were affected. The company said "a small number" of products distributed in the UK and Ireland could be affected but "no other brands or varieties" were part of the recall. A spokesperson told the Liverpool Echo : "Through our routine test- ing, we have detected the potential presence of salmonella from the ingredients used to make our chocolate. "As a precaution we are voluntarily recalling certain Galaxy bars, Counters and Minstrels and Maltesers Teasers bars. "We are working closely with the relevant food safety authorities and our customers to ensure affected products are no longer available for purchase. "If you have one of the products, you should not eat it. Please keep the product and contact our Customer Care team to arrange return and reimbursement. "This precautionary recall has been initiated with the best inter- ests of our customers at heart and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused." The list of items recalled by Tesco include: Tesco creamy leek and bacon cooking sauce 470g It's best before the end of July 2018, with a batch code of 7031. A manufacturing fault has been found, affecting a single batch of Tesco creamy leek and bacon cooking sauce 470g. The batch may contain egg, which is not declared on the label – meaning it could be a risk to customers intolerant or allergic to egg. Tesco is recalling the affected date code from customers, while no other Tesco products are known to be affected. The website said: "Routine testing has detected high water activity in a limited number of the above products which raises concerns about the company's procedures in place to control Clostridium botulinum. "Clostridium botulinum has not been detected in any product and this action is purely a precautionary measure."
