Works within MIA’s security screening area will pave way for its final relocation

-

As Malta International Airport shifts to the winter season, it will also be ramping up reconfiguration works within the terminal, in an effort to conclude its Terminal Reconfiguration Project before summer 2018 kicks in.

These works will include a reorganisation of the layout of the airport’s Central Security Screening Area, scheduled to start on Friday 6th October, and expected to create bottlenecks at this point of the passenger journey until February 2018.

In the light of this, travellers who will be passing through the terminal in the next four months are advised to be at the airport at least 2 hours before their scheduled flight departure time.

Whilst apologising for any inconvenience these works may cause, Malta International Airport envisages this to be the penultimate disruption to impact the passenger journey as a result of the Terminal Reconfiguration Project.

Malta International Airport’s Central Security Screening area was recently transferred from its original location on the ground floor to a much bigger, albeit temporary, space on Level 1 of the terminal. While this move has already improved the security screening process significantly, the reorganisation works that will be starting soon will pave the way for the final relocation of the Central Security Screening Area to a permanent space on Level 1 in the second quarter of 2018.

Here, two of six queuing lanes will introduce for the first time a fast-track option for passengers travelling with children and business travellers. This relocation will also signal the successful completion of Malta International Airport’s Terminal Reconfiguration Project.

The €12 million project has already improved the airport experience significantly, with the addition of eight new check-in desks and the installation of a state-ofthe-art Baggage Handling System in the first quarter of 2018 expected to contribute to an even smoother and more secure airport journey.
