Masters Football Player of the Month announced

William da Silva Barbosa, known as William, made a successful debut in Masters Football when he was voted as the Player of the Month for September. During the month he helped his club Wardija to win two out of three games and in the process scoring six goals.

The Player of the Month trophy was presented by Michael Galea, chief officer Business Development of Mapfre MSV Life and Mario Meli, president of Masters Football during a presentation held at the Mapfre MSV Life offices in Floriana.

Congratulating William da Silva Barbosa on winning this first edition of the Masters Football Player of the Month, Galea said that this award is a new incentive by the main sponsors of the Premier League, Mapfre MSV Life, to motivate the players further. Coaches and officials of all the participating teams vote to choose the best player.

William, who was born in Sao Paolo, Brazil, signed his first contract when he was still 14 years old. He came to Malta in 2011 to join Valletta. During his first season he won the championship, but after two years he moved on to St Andrews. William also played as player/coach to start a new venture in his career. He also played for some time with St Lawrence Spurs in Gozo.

William, who also takes part in Futsal football with Luxol, played with several clubs in Italy for some 12 years before he came to Malta.
