Full ownership of Paradise Bay Hotel Ltd acquired by Ferdinand Fenech Ltd

Property re-branding and substantial investments underway

Determined to continue on Moses Fenech’s legacy, a pioneer of the tourism industry in Malta, his grandchildren, shareholders of the company Ferdinand Fenech Ltd, have recently acquired full ownership of Paradise Bay Hotel Ltd and a number of new and exciting investments are underway.

Fenech started the business in the 1950s from humble beginnings, when he opened a small food and beverage outlet called Cote d'Or at Military Bay, which he then renamed Golden Bay. In the early 1960s he built two floors on the Cote d'Or for tourism purposes and started the building of the original Golden Sands Hotel with 118 rooms which by the late 1970s had increased to 360 rooms.

In the early 1970s he acquired the Paradise Bay Hotel which at that time had 40 rooms and started the construction of the current Resort Hotel to 180 rooms which throughout the years grew to a total of 276 rooms. In the 1980s Fenech also inaugurated The Grand Hotel Les Lapins in Ta’ Xbiex and also acquired the Riviera Martinique in Ghajn Tuffieha.

The Ferdinand Fenech family, who previously owned a 50% shareholding in Paradise Bay Hotel Ltd, has recently purchased the other 50% shareholding from Beatrix Zammit Ltd, making them the sole owners of the property and its operations.

This recent share acquisition paves the way for a number of changes within the Resort's operations including a full image rebranding and an investment of €800,000 for the refurbishment of the reception and lobby which should be ready by the beginning of next year.

A substantial investment for the building of two new floors, redevelopment of the island’s Edge Lido apart from the original property, which was built in the 1960s, are earmarked for the near future. Discussions are also presently underway for the Resort to form part of an international hotel and resort franchise.

The new board of directors is now formed by Ferdinand Fenech as chairman, Stefan Moses Fenech as managing director and Claudette Fenech, Ariadne Curmi and Rebecca Vella as directors. Karl Azzopardi has recently been appointed as the Resort's general manager.
