Toward the strengthening of the gaming industry and the exploration of new niches
Whilst addressing another edition of Sigma, the iGaming Summit, Parliamentary Secretary Silvio Schembri explained how MGA is working on a brand new Gaming Act which will be enacted next year with the aim of reducing bureaucracy and making things more straightforward for companies which want to register in Malta. This is being done while adopting money laundering regulations, such as the AML4.
Silvio Schembri said that Malta offers the complete gaming ecosystem because it has the resources, people and culture to give iGaming professionals and entrepreneurs the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals in an environment where business gets done.
‘We are promoting a new niche in the industry, that of Fantasy Sports’, Silvio Schembri said, while adding that an American company, Draft Kings, has already registered in Malta, and that more companies will follow suit. ‘This will create more job opportunities and the industry will continue to grow.’
Silvio Schembri added that owing to the fast pace at which the industry is growing, as well as the demand within the same industry, the Maltese Government is working to make sure to keep up with the demand whilst upskilling workers.
Around 8000 delegates participated in this year’s Sigma, doubling last year’s attendance numbers—clear proof of how strong the industry is.
