The Mellieħa Internatio­nal Christmas Festival 2017

The Mellieħa Local Council will be organising its annual activity The Mellieħa Internatio­nal Christmas Festival on Saturday 23, Sunday 24, Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 December.

This activity, organised with the support of the Department for Local Government, the Malta Tourism Authority, Valletta 2018 Foundation, North Region and the Malta Christmas Festival, will be held in Ġorġ Borg Olivier Street and the Parish Square from 7pm onwards.

This year’s edition will be inaugurate­d in the morning of Saturday, 23 December with a Kids’ party at the Mellieħa Primary School and will feature games, face painting, balloon modelling, sing-alongs and of course a visit from Father Christmas himself. In the evening, the Christmas Concert by the Voca Gospel Choir and Band will be held at the Manikata church.

On the morning of Christmas Eve an activity for the elderly will be held at Dar ta’ l- Anzjani Madonna tal-Mellieħa with the participat­ion of Benny and Tonia and the Future Voices Childrens Choir.

In the evening, the traditiona­l procession of baby Jesus will be organised by the Museum Society of Mellieħa followed by a concert at the Parish square by the Għaqda Mużikali Imperial. After the concert everyone is invited to attend the Midnight Mass animated by the Choral and Orchestral Society Maria Bambina.

On 27 and 28 December, Mellieħa will offer two days of internatio­nal parades and shows with over 150 participan­ts and the participat­ion of Father Christmas along Mellieħa’s main streets. The events of 27 December will come to an end at Misrah izZjara tal-Papa and on 28 at the Mellieħa Parish Square.

Maltese participan­ts will include La Vittoria Band Club, The Big Friends Guggen Musik Band, The Marsa Scouts Bagpipes and Drums and the Wallace Bagpipes and Drums, as well as Artemocion Dance Studio and Valentine Dancers.

Participan­ts from Italy include The Majorettes of Casperia, The Associazio­ne Musicale V. Bellini – Citta di Calatabian­o, I Cariddi Folk Group, I Fanfara Bersaglier­i dell’Etna, The Gruppo Sbandierat­ori and Musici Leoni Reali.

Typical food, synonymous with the festive season, will be on sale for the general public. Everyone is invited to attend. Entrance is free.
