Over 250 students graduate from the Institute of Tourism Studies

Over 250 students have successfully completed their studies with the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) and graduated during a ceremony held on 4 December at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.

The event was held under the auspices of the Minister for Tourism, Konrad Mizzi. The number of graduates was significantly larger than last year’s, where the number of graduates was 120.

Graduates this year consisted of 53% males and 47% women, with the most students graduating from the programme Diploma in Food Preparation and Production Operations.

ITS CEO, Pierre Fenech stated: “It is a pleasure seeing all these students graduating today and I know that most of them have also chosen to continue their studies with the institute for this current academic year. We encourage all of you to further your studies as much as possible in an industry which is constantly growing. This year, we can proudly say that all of you will not only receive your printed certificate, but the institute will also be issuing a digital certificate using Blockcerts. This way you may share your certificate with anyone at your convenience. Blockcerts is a pilot programme and the first in Europe of its kind, which is brought together by an agreement between the Ministry for Education and Employment and Learning Machine Technologies.”

Dr Mizzi added: “I am very pleased that 250 students have successfully completed their studies at the Institute of Tourism Studies, an increase of 130 stu- dents over last year. We aim to keep increasing and expanding our courses and curriculum at the Institute of Tourism Studies. This year we have commenced our first Bachelor degrees with internationally-renowned universities and the University of Malta. The Institute is central to government’s plans to develop the human capital required for our tourism sector.”
