Three local Japanese cities seek Maltese English language instructors in public and private schools

-

The Embassy of Japan in Malta (resident in Italy) calls for the application from Maltese citizens to the Jet programme, particularly as English language assistants in schools.

The Jet, Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme, which started in 1987 aims to enhance foreign language education and promote international exchange at the local level through the fostering of ties between Japanese youth and foreign youth alike.

The Jet programme offers the interested participants the opportunity to serve for a period of one year, eventually extendable, in local authorities as well as public and private elementary, junior high and senior high schools in Japan.

The Jet programme is implemented by the local authorities and other organisations, which appoint participants in cooperation with the authorities in Japan such as the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations.

In 2017, there were a total of 5,163 participants on the programme coming from 44 countries.

Following the official visit of PM Shinzo Abe to Malta in May 2017, the country has been selected for the first time to join the Jet pro- gramme and three local cities in Japan, from different regions, have shown their interest to accept Maltese citizens as ALT (Assistant Language Teacher).

The remuneration during their stay, which is basically one year but yet extendable, which amount is sufficient to cover average living expenses in Japan, will be borne by the Japanese government.

Applicants should hold Maltese nationality and a bachelor’s degree. Those who have experience or qualifications in the education field will also be positively considered.

The detailed conditions and application forms are available on http://www.it.embjapan.go.jp/italiano/malta/Malta _index_EN.htm

The deadline for application is 9 March. Applicants will go through a pre-screening by the embassy and the interview will take place in Malta. The working period in Japan will commence at the beginning of August.

The Embassy of Japan welcomes those enthusiastic candidates who wish to integrate in the local communities and contribute to the international experience and English education for the elementary, junior and senior high schools in Japan.
