The UM’s Department of Nursing at the heart of International Nurse Education
The veins and arteries of the world of nurse education will be leading and flowing to the Department of Nursing at the University of Malta later this month, when the Department hosts the Fine conference on 21-23 February at the Valletta Campus.
Over 200 delegates from all over the world are already registered. Over 150 abstracts were reviewed. The selected international presenters of conference papers hail from Norway, Finland, Wales, England, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Ghana, Australia, America, South Sudan, Morocco, Belgium, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Serbia, Tunisia, Lebanon and Malta. A small number of Maltese nurses engaged in the clinical fields, nurse academics and post graduate students will present papers on each day of the conference.
The capacity at the venue has been maximised to meet the interest and demand. A few conference places are to-date still available. Registrations will be received until 16 February at http://www.fineeurope.eu. Registrations may close earlier if full capacity of venue is reached before.
The line-up of keynote speakers at the conference matches the respectful international recognition and reputation that the Fine conferences hold. On the first day delegates will be privileged to receive a conference opening address by Prof. Mary Gobbi, who is a Professorial Fellow for Health Care Education within Health Sciences at the University of Southampton.
Prof. Gobbi is an extremely well known European nurse education expert and researcher with a focus on nurse education standards and quality assurance, competency based professional education and professional accreditation and reg- ulation. Prof. Judith Schamiam, whose term as president of the International Council of Nurses, the largest international nursing entity, just came to an end, will address the conference on Thursday, 22 February, followed by Dr Nuhad Dumit, who will inject another dimension to the conference as president of the Order of Nurses in Lebanon. On the last day of the conference, a leading Maltese nurse academic, Dr Joanna Depares, will address the conference with a paper drawing upon her work and expertise in cross border care and education, while Prof. Cecil Begley, who chairs the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the Trinity College, Dublin will turn the focus forward and outwardly towards advanced practice in nursing.
This prestigious international conference is being supported by the University of Malta. Prof. Joseph Cacciottolo, University of Malta pro-rector and the dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr Roberta Sammut, will address the conference, alongside the parliamentary secretary within the Ministry for Education and Employment, the Minister for Health and the parliamentary secretary for V18 and Consumer protection.
