Over 800 students graduated from the MCAST Technical College after successfully completing the Level 4 Advanced Diploma programme in their respective area of study last year.

The six graduation ceremonies, held at the MCAST Main Campus in Paola, took place between Wednesday, 31 January and Wednesday, 7 February. On Wednesday, 31 January students that successfully graduated from the MCAST Institute of Applied Sciences, including the Centre for Agriculture, Aquatics & Animal Sciences and the Institute of Engineering and Transport received certificates. On Thursday, 1 February and Friday, 2 February students from the Institute of Information and Communication Technology and the Institute for Community Services received certificates respectively. On Monday, 5, Tuesday, 6 and Wednesday, 7 February students from the Institutes of the Creative Arts, Engineering and Transport and Business Management and Commerce graduated respectively.

The MCAST Technical College provides further programmes of study at MQF/EQF Level 4 in closer collaboration with industry. The Advanced Diplomas on offer prepare students with the right knowledge, skills and competences in order to take up technical positions within the industry or progress to the University College should they prefer to do so. Level 4 programmes incorporate a wide range of apprenticeships in various fields of studies thus enabling the students to also gain practical work experience while studying.

This College is continuously seeking to provide new opportunities and programmes for its students and this year it is extending the apprenticeship component to new Technical College Advanced Diplomas. It is also offering a newly revised Advanced Diploma in Electronics with different specialisations embedded into it. This will enable students to engage in a basic common curriculum in the area for two years and then specialise in a particular area of interest in their third year of study. The Technical College is also offering a revised Advanced Diploma in Electrical Systems that will enable participants to get both Authorisation A and Authorisation B without the need to go for supplementary evening courses.

The Technical College is also providing a revised Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering that will enable participants to get a good grounding in civil engineering technology with the possibility to specialise in an area of interest in their third year of the course, including a new stream related to Road Civil Engineering.

It is always with pride that MCAST follows the development and achievement of its students. Jeffrey Bajada enrolled as a mature student in 2013 following the BTEC Extended Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment (Building Services Engineering). Jeffrey’s participation and motivation during the course was outstanding in all aspects. The work submitted though his assignments was exceptional and this was due to the fact that he always performed more research in order to further his studies on the topics covered during the lectures. Thus, his assignments show evidence that he had extended his knowledge on the subjects. Moreover, while undertaking the BTEC Extended Diploma, Jeffrey was also engaged as a sergeant with the Armed Forces of Malta.

Another success student is Francesco Chetcuti who studied Creative Media Production at the Institute for the Creative Arts. Francesco is a very diligent student who has always managed to create a link between his studies and practical work. During his studies he embarked on a project at Enemalta where he proved to be very professional in his field of study.

The certificates were presented by Stephen Cachia, principal and CEO, in the presence of Victor Satariano, deputy president of MCAST Board of Governors, Ronald Curmi, registrar, Dr Mario Cardona, head of MCAST Technical College and the respective Institute directors.
