Camilleri brothers continue to dominate ASMK Motocross
On Sunday, 4 February Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi continued with an activity of the Honda Motocross National Championship 2017/2018. For this competition 21 competitors divided into three classes registered for the race held at Ta Qali ASMK Sports Complex.
During the day in Class A, where riders with experience and skills in this field compete, we saw Kyle Camilleri on his KTM dominate the qualification race. During this pre-race event Kyle was followed by Carmelo Borg on his Honda and Clayton Camilleri on a KTM.
During the following two other heats which count for the day’s Championship Points Kyle Camilleri registered a record lap time and also won the first heat. But in the second heat it was Kyle’s brother Clayton who won this heat ahead of Kyle who finished in second place. The final result of the day for Class A states that Clayton is declared the winner, followed by his brother Kyle. Both brothers compete on KTM motorcycles while third placed Carmel Borg rides a Honda. Fourth place was awarded to Stefan Dimech on his Honda, followed by James Zahra on a Sherco MX Bike.
In Class B we saw Bernard Sammut on his sponsored Beta domi- nate this class where he managed to win both the qualifying and the heats of the day. In the final day’s results Sammut was followed by Daniel Caruana on a Honda and Christopher Hartmann on a KTM. Fourth and fifth places were won by Krist Falzon and Michael Sant respectively, both riding Husqvarna motorcycles.
The Veterans’ Class is held for riders who are 40 years and over but still able to ride motocross in competition. In this class we again saw Paul Deguara on his KTM win this class. In the Final Classification Paul was followed by Andrew Cassar and Daniel Bonnici (third), also on a KTM.
Meanwhile the activities of the Association will continue next week. A meeting and race registration is being organised for those competitors who wish to participate in the Mini Car Demolition to be held on 18 March at Ta’ Qali.
On Saturday, 17 February ASMK will be holding the Race Final of the Autocross Class A which was postponed from Sunday, 26 November. The race will be held at Ta’ Qali Sport Complex and starts at 3pm. Admission to this race final is free for all.
On Sunday, 18 February ASMK are organising another motorcycle race from the WotoMoto National Enduro Championship for 2017/2018. The event, which is open also to non-ASMK members, will take place at the Fawwara Hardrocks Quarry and starts at 10am. Registration opens at 9am.
