Acclaimed US journalist visits MCAST journalism students
American journalist and news anchor, Richard Lui, visited the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts in Mosta and delivered a talk on High Impact Storytelling. Lui, who has vast experience in the journalism field after opting to start a career in reporting after years in the business industry, engaged with MCAST journalism students present on his perspective on the job.
Discussing common issues faced in the journalism field, Lui emphasised the importance of credible sourcing, insisting that sources give trustworthiness to the story. He also told the BA Journalism, Media and Photography students present, that when working on a story, the principle of “say-see, see-say” is always at the centre of his work.
Apart from carrying out the planned talk, Lui received a multitude of questions from the students present, who eagerly wanted to learn from his experience and lessons. The questions from the audience consisted of Lui’s experience in the American presidential elections, the challenges of working on a major American news television and cable station and his perspective on the international political situation.
Lui concluded the talk by urging the undergraduate students to pursue the noble profession of journalism, claiming that the journalist’s integral job in society helps to keep in check those in power while committing to see good in society.
Special thanks to the US embassy for making this possible.
