MCAST cel­e­brates Di­ver­sity Day

On Thurs­day, 10 May MCAST or­gan­ised a se­ries of ac­tiv­i­ties to cel­e­brate Di­ver­sity Day and Europe Day. The events were held at the MCAST Pi­azzetta, MCAST Main Cam­pus, Paola.

There are presently over 60 dif­fer­ent na­tion­al­i­ties rep­re­sented at MCAST and most par­tic­i­pated in the ac­tiv­i­ties or­gan­ised to pro­mote and cel­e­brate this di­ver­sity. Events in­cluded mu­sic and dance, cul­tural pre­sen­ta­tions as well as var­i­ous sports ac­tiv­i­ties in­clud­ing a foot­ball tour­na­ment, Judo self-de­fence prac­tice, a Ninja demon­stra­tion and a tug-of-war.

The Malta Fire Bri­gade and the Armed Forces of Malta were also present and held demon­stra­tions. Stu­dents hail­ing from the Elec­tron­ics En­gi­neer­ing pro­grammes of study dis­played a se­lec­tion of elec­tronic en­gi­neer­ing projects.

Sev­eral stalls were also set up in the MCAST Stu­dents’ House where stu­dents pre­sented dif­fer­ent crafts and tra­di­tional ex­hi­bi­tions from around the world. Vis­i­tors had the op­por­tu­nity to taste tra­di­tional food from dif­fer­ent coun­tries as well as view stu­dents dressed in tra­di­tional cos­tumes.

A se­ries of talks were also held in re­la­tion to Europe Day to pro­mote ca­reers and trainee­ships avail­able around Europe. Speak­ers from the Euro­pean Rep­re­sen­ta­tion of Malta to the EU, Euro­pean Par­lia­ment Rep­re­sen­ta­tion in Malta and the Euro­pean Asy­lum Of­fice in Malta were present to share their ex­pe­ri­ences.

The Pres­i­dent of Malta, MarieLouise Coleiro Preca vis­ited the event and met stu­dents from dif­fer­ent na­tion­al­i­ties. Dur­ing her visit to the Malta stand, the Pres­i­dent was pre­sented with the book, Ste­j­jer ta’ Dari u tal-Lum by Noel Cachia, a mem­ber of the MCAST staff.
