Caring for the planet at St Aloysius’ College Primary
The whole student body at St Aloysius’ College Primary immersed itself into a week of awarenessbuilding activities and hands-on action to make a difference to the local and global environment.
Following the themes, The Gift of Creation in term one and Changing our lifestyle in term 2, the new theme What I do matters… to me, to you, to the poor saw activities where each class “adopted” one of 30 countries most affected by climate-change and learnt about it while becoming aware of what individual actions could affect life in each country in a positive or negative way. Every individual child’s environmentally-friendly action was recorded and commended.
Besides learning about the beautiful aspects of the chosen countries, pupils learnt about the causes of poverty and environmental degradation in different parts of the world. Poster competitions for each grade were organised and a final activity was held focussing on how our use of plas- tic can have negative effects even on the other side of the planet.
Overall, the children learnt how what we do here and now for the environment matters and will have a positive or negative effect both locally and globally, now and for future generations.
What I do matters! was organised by the St Aloysius’ College Primary school chaplaincy in collaboration with the EkoSkola team as part of the College’s Connected − Taking care of our common home formation programme.
