Increased security and peace of mind for workers in industrial areas

-

Malta Industrial Parks and the Department of Civil Protection signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The aim of this agreement is not only to enhance cooperation between the two entities but to also provide a solid framework for cooperation with regards to security in industrial areas.

This was announced during a press conference by the Minister for Economy, Investment and Small Businesses Chris Cardona and Minister for Home Affairs and National Security Michael Farrugia.

Minister Cardona stated that this agreement is crucial for owners and employees of companies operating in industrial areas. “As a government we must continue to strengthen our industrial areas because they are a crucial part of the local economy.”

Minister Farrugia said that this agreement shows the cooperation between the two ministries that work as a team and with one purpose. He continued that through this agreement, the CPD will enhance their fleet that will consist of a mechanical horse, two tankers with a capacity of 16,000-20,000 litres and two tankers with a capacity of 40,000 litres. These will complement the current tankers that have a capacity of 11,000 litres.

Through this agreement, each industrial area will be equipped with a high capacity water carrier fleet to make up for the lack of fire hydrants in industrial areas. Moreover, the Department of Civil Protection will be offering basic training to the employees of Malta Industrial Parks, for them to be better prepared in case of emergency. This agreement will also see an increase in site inspections in industrial areas and the establishment of an emergency hotline that will be solely devoted to emergencies that arise in industrial areas.

Minister Cardona and Minister Farrugia thanked the employees of Malta Industrial Parks and the Department of Civil Protection for their impeccable collaboration and ultimately their commitment that led to this important step.
