Faculty of Engineering exhibition

-

Engineering has contributed significantly throughout the years towards technological progress and a better quality of life. It continues to be one of the principal means for solutions to many challenges that the world faces every day. Engineering also continues to extend technological boundaries. In Malta, the availability of sufficient engineering skills is instrumental in maintaining and improving the standard of living in the years to come. The availability of engineering skills allows the country to be more competitive and able to attract high value added investment.

The upcoming 29th edition of the University of Malta’s annual Engineering Projects exhibition will showcase the projects carried out by the undergraduate engineering students during the final year of their four year B.Eng. (Hons) degree programme and also by postgraduate engineering students of the Faculty of Engineering. Projects will be on display in the various laboratories at the Faculty, University of Malta, Msida Campus, which will be open to the public on Saturday, 30 June and Sunday, 1 July from 9am to 1pm.

The 97 exhibits on show this year will include a wide selection of topical areas related to the biomedical field, renewable energy, the environment, electronic products, robotics, transportation, manufacturing processes, new materials and surface treatments.

Throughout the years, the exhibited projects have portrayed stateof-the-art technological and research achievements. The aim of the exhibition is to give all students ranging from primary to post-secondary education, employers and employees within the industrial, health and services sectors and the general public, an opportunity to view the projects first hand and to meet with grad- uating students. The exhibition also gives visitors the opportunity to tour the Faculty’s laboratory facilities and garner a better understanding of the Engineering profession. It will entice young pupils to aim for a career in Engineering and give them a glimpse of the vast opportunities available to professional engineers through their studies at the University of Malta.

The Faculty offers tuition and supervision at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The undergraduate mechanical and electrical engineering programmes of studies are designed to enable students to grasp the engineering fundamentals while allowing them enough flexibility to direct their studies towards various different aspects of engineering. The degree programmes give graduates job flexibility and the ability to further their studies in diverse areas of engineering at postgraduate level.

Many past graduates have been enjoying excellent careers as well as postgraduate study opportunities in highly regarded companies and universities worldwide. The Faculty has been very active in research in the various disciplines of engineering, thereby responding to both the needs of the country, as well as the international science and engineering commu- nities. Members of the Faculty have also attracted funding to upgrade their laboratory facilities in recent years and were highly successful in securing competitive research funds nationally and internationally.
