Higher Secondary launches prospectus for next scholastic year

-

Minister for Education and Employment Evarist Bartolo said that the new Higher Secondary prospectus opens up new opportunities for young people, offering a more focused approach in their education path.

The Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School has over the years built a reputation of an educational institution that helps students reach their potential, while offering them a personal and focused approach to learning.

Earlier, the 2018-19 prospectus was launched, which explains the different courses offered by the school in line with its mission to provide tailor-made options to cater for the individual needs of each student.

Apart from the various academic subjects offered, the Higher Secondary is also introducing a number of new programmes that seek to provide a strong link between the formal academic education provided in the classroom and non-formal settings that facilitate a richer academic path. This ensures that the curriculum is based on the two fundamental elements of formal and non-formal education. “We are committed to treat each student on an individual basis and strive to enrich each students’ experience on campus by providing exposure to the necessary 21st century skills,” stated the head of school, Gaetano Calleja.

Concurrently, along with the ability to achieve academic qualifications, the Higher Secondary is offering the possi- bility for students to develop life skills to help them adjust to an ever-changing environment in a non-formal manner.

Students are given the opportunity to hone their soft skills, such as creativity, leadership, motivation, teamwork and communication, through a number of programmes including E-Twinning, Education for Sustainable Development, Leadership Skills, Mind Yoga for Wellness and Achievement, Photography, Practicing and Entrepreneurship Skills and The Art of Drama.

The Higher Secondary is also offering students an opportunity to further enhance their third language skills while pursuing their chosen course. The Foreign Language Proficiency Programme is an accredited programme at MQF Level 3 (equivalent to a SEC ‘O’ Level) and will be offered in French, German, Italian and Spanish.

Another initiative targets young national athletes who would like to pursue their studies at a higher level. The school offers a flexible, tailor-made timetable for students who form part of the national teams of different fields of sport. This is to enable students to combine their demanding training schedules and the pursuit of their academic course of choice.

In its efforts to make the school more digitally oriented, it will also be launching its own app in September. This will facilitate communication with students on matters such as upcoming events, important notices and school policies.

More details will be provided during information talks which will be held on 11 July. All prospective students, parents and guardians are invited to attend these talks. The first talk will be held at 10am and the second one will be held at 6.30pm.
