Partnership agreement between MEDE and hotel establishments

-

Secondary school students studying SEC Hospitality now have the opportunity to carry out the practical tasks of the hospitality syllabus on hotel premises.

During the 2015-2016 scholastic year, hospitality and four other vocational subjects were introduced in secondary schools, both state and non-state, as elective subjects which students can opt to study between Forms 3 and 5. These subjects are accredited as SEC qualifications by the Matsec Board, at par with the other curricular subjects.

In the case of hospitality, Human Resource managers of five-star hotels have signed a partnership agreement with the Ministry for Education and Employment to support state and non-state secondary schools offering SEC Hospitality.

Thus, all students in Forms 3, 4 and 5 studying SEC Hospitality would be invited to carry out the practical tasks of the hospitality syllabus on the hotel premises.

This agreement will be put in practice as from the next scholastic year 2018-19.

Minister for Education and Employment Evarist Bartolo stated that: “Such occasions enable learners to develop competencies that allow them to grow as individuals, shape and develop their own identity, become involved with the production/service industry and experience the day-to-day challenges of the workplace.”

There are currently 11 state, 14 church and two independent secondary schools offering SEC

Hospitality with a total of 728 students– 346 in state secondary, 345 in church secondary and 37 in independent secondary schools.
