Tender for another €5m sewage infrastructure upgrade issued

-

The Water Services Corporation has published another multimillion euro tender as part of its strategy to upgrade Malta’s sewage network and treatment infrastructure.

The village of Dingli is currently served through a pumping station and a temporary catchment where waste water is collected and later pumped towards the main network. With this initiative, the station shall be bypassed and waste water will proceed via gravity mains towards the main Rabat deep gallery. Unconnected residents in the area shall also be served in the process.

This project has substantial benefits including energy use and odour reduction. The project will also result in less sewage bowsers on the road network of the said areas.

CEO Richard Bilocca stated that: “This project is in line with the corporation’s strategy to put its customers’ ambition first. It will improve the service being offered, limit inconvenience, while also reaching such aims with higher energy efficiency performance.”

The full tender document, CT/3163/2018, can be accessed at http:// www. wsc. com. mt/ tenders/.

This project will be led by the Water Services Corporation and may be co-financed through Cohesion funds.

The corporation reiterates that the sewage infrastructure is very complex and delicate and that such infrastructure is damaged through the improper use of the urban sewer system. It is therefore very important that only human toilet waste and degradable toilet paper are discharged in the system. Any suspected foul play or problems with the sewer can be reported to the Corporation on Freephone: 8007 6400; email: customercare@wsc.com.mt; live chat: www.wsc.com.mt or through social media.
