The Central Bank of Malta went Pink

The Central Bank of Malta, through its Cultural Activities Committee, joined other organisations, NGOs and individuals to mark Pink October.

On 19 October, the Bank’s staff was encouraged to wear a ‘touch of pink’ and donate funds to The Marigold Foundation for the purpose of raising awareness on the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.

Bank staff were greeted by pink sweets and teas on their arrival on the Bank’s premises. A breast cancer survivor also delivered a talk during the lunch break, sharing her personal experience during her illness.

The Central Bank of Malta management and staff have raised €2,300 for this initiative. During a presentation event held on 30 October, at Villa Francia, Deputy Governor Alexander Demarco, together with members of the Cultural Activities Committee, presented these funds to Mrs Michelle Muscat, Chairperson of The Marigold Foundation. He explained that this initiative falls within the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility.

Mrs Muscat thanked Mr Demarco, the Bank’s management and staff members for their donations. She explained that the aim of The Marigold Foundation was to organise national Pink October events for the benefit of a number of NGOs.

She also stressed the importance of awareness for all ages and genders, and that although incidence of breast cancer in men is low, she also encouraged men to undertake checks.
