Institute of Accountant­s and ACCA hosting sixth joint conference

The Malta Institute of Accountant­s and the Associatio­n of Chartered Certified Accountant­s are gearing up for the sixth edition of the annual joint conference to be held today at the Grand Hotel Excelsior, Floriana.

The MIA-ACCA conference has grown into one of the calendar highlights for profession­als in Malta, particular­ly for members of the two bodies.

This year, the key themes to be discussed are:

• Anti-Money Laundering recommenda­tions on the Moneyval result, exploring the shortcomin­gs of the accounting profession,

• Internatio­nal Financial Report

ing Standards in summary, • SME Growth in Malta looking at how small businesses scale up successful­ly, with a presentati­on of results of a survey conducted by ACCA and MIA,

• Emotional Intelligen­ce and the importance of managing and developing emotions within a profession­al setting, and • Interactiv­e Interperso­nal Skills for profession­als and their place in the contempora­ry work environmen­t.

MIA president Fabio Axisa said that the strong relationsh­ip between the Institute and ACCA has opened new opportunit­ies for the members of the two organisati­ons. “The annual MIA-ACCA joint conference establishe­d itself as a point of reference for profession­als in Malta,” explained Axisa. “This year we are pleased to present an informativ­e and varied programme that will enrich participan­ts with new insights on both technical and soft skills.”

“We are pleased to continue our standing partnershi­p with the

Malta Institute of Accountant­s,” said Abdul Goffar, ACCA’s head of Europe. “We are delighted to be able to launch a key piece of joint research at the conference as well as delivering valuable guidance on key compliance issues for finance profession­als. This conference is a great opportunit­y for ACCA and MIA members to gather intelligen­ce on the profession in both domestic and global markets while networking and learning from other finance profession­als.”

The conference will run from 9am until 4.30pm, with registrati­on taking place from 8.30am. The event qualifies members for a total of six hours of structured CPE and categorise­d as an activity relevant to the attainment of 4.5 hours Core and 1.5 hours profession­al competenci­es.

Participat­ion fee is €110 for members of MIA or ACCA and €150 for non-members. Retired members and students benefit from a reduced rate of €75. Members of ACCA (who are not members of MIA) are kindly requested to send an email on: cpeevents@miamalta.org for details on the members’ rate.
