Minister Ian Borg in Dubai
Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg is in Dubai on an official visit where he is attending the Global Investment in Aviation Summit. This event brings together several stakeholders, operators and leaders in aviation with the aim of creating discussion about the present and future state of the industry and towards more investment.
In his speech, Minister Borg spoke about the sector’s success in our country, while reiterating government’s support. He stressed the importance of sustainability and the need for this sector to aim for standards which conform to the European Commission’s environmental plans.
“Governments must incentivise the use of cleaner fuels as they did towards alternative energy in other sectors. We need to see more adequate infrastructure in airports. Every minute counts and every person is important. That is why we need a global commitment towards more training for our human resources, to see more consistent and sustainable growth. We are proud that Malta is considering and implementing all of this step by step. Let’s continue working together for a positive future in aviation,” Minister Borg concluded.
During this visit, the minister had the opportunity to participate in a bilateral meeting with Minister for the Economy and General Civil Aviation Authority chairman for the United Arab Emirates.
The Maltese register currently has over 400 aircrafts, while several discussions are underway with a number of interested operators and training companies. The 460 aircrafts’ target for 2020 was announced by Minister Ian Borg a few days ago.
