Vodafone's new strategic framework offers financial package to workers who want to leave

- Karl Azzopardi

A financial package has been made available for employees working with Vodafone Malta who voluntarily leave the company, a spokesperson said, while adding that the company is implementing a new strategic framework through a €40m investment over the next two to three years.

Last week, company sources told The Malta Independent that the company is undergoing a massive shift in its operational mechanisms which would result in the reduction of workspace and employees being made redundant. However, while speaking to this newsroom, a spokesperson for the company denied these claims.

“There has not been a redundancy programme at Vodafone Malta. Following the takeover of the company by Monaco Telecom in April, the company has set out a new strategic framework and business plan. This plan targets improving the company’s services further through a €40m investment in the following two to three years,” they explained.

The focus of this investment is upgrading and digitising the company’s current services, to bring further innovative solutions to Malta and to expand the company’s service offerings through investment in broadband infrastructure, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said that to deliver this “ambitious plan” the company has started implementing a new culture, including new ways of working and introducing a fully dedicated team aligned with the strategy and values so it can deliver the best service to its customers.

Therefore, the company said that it decided to offer its employees a chance to decide if they wanted to be part of this journey or not. For those who decided to part ways with the company as part of this voluntary exit plan, “a generous financial package” was given, calculated on their function and years of service to the company.

“The participation in this programme was completely voluntary,” the spokesperson ensured.

The company is also looking for talent to join its team in a number of vacant positions, including in digital marketing, software development, quality assurance and radio engineering. The open roles are available on the company’s website.

Regarding the workspace, the spokesperson said that Vodafone Malta has been a pioneer and one of the first companies in Malta to embrace flexitime and remote working. Following COVID-19, the value of remote working has been further accentuated and the company is operating on a remote-first basis for many of its head office functions.

“This more efficient and flexible operating model not only gives benefits for employees to reach a better work-life balance while contributing to less pollution through reduction of traffic, but is also freeing up the need of physical office space,” the spokesperson said.
