ITS will be hosting the 18th Annual International Circle Conference

The conference will be focused on Higher Education and Tourism in relation to post-pandemic trends

-

The Institute of Tourism Studies will be hosting the 18th annual Circle Conference, titled Higher Education & Tourism: Post-pandemic Trends. This conference will be held at San Antonio Hotel between 20 and 22 April.

Circle International was formed in 2003 to bring together university academics from Europe and beyond who shared a passion for research within different business and management topics. It owns two journals – the International Journal of Management Cases

and the International Journal of Sales, Retail & Marketing – and each year holds a conference where many of the published papers are presented.

This year the annual conference will be hosted in Malta by the Institute of Tourism Studies. The conference will focus on the consequences the pandemic has left on Higher Education and Tourism and Hospitality. These two sectors have been impacted significantly.

The Higher Education sector has been completely altered by its focus on e-learning, distance education or education through modern tools. While various organisations within the tourism industry have also been affected negatively causing massive job and revenue losses, some organisations were impacted permanently and therefore had to leave the market.

The higher education and tourism sector are large sectors that require a thorough review and credible long-term post-pandemic solutions need to be considered. This conference will act as an attempt to actively contribute to finding scientific and realistic solutions to these two important sectors through panel discussions that will bring together academics and practitioners.

The panel will address the imbalances caused by the pandemic to the economic, social, political and cultural dimensions, therefore working together will yield a better chance to find a solution. Malta was chosen by Circle International to hold the conference, as a country with an influential geographical location in the two sectors. Circle International created a partnership with the Institute of Tourism Studies since they have a strong understanding of both tourism and higher education.
