Malta Foundation for Wellbeing of Society condemns war and calls for donations to help Ukrainians’ plight

-

The Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society is condemning the continuous destructive attacks on Ukraine and urging Maltese to donate towards the plight of millions of displaced families and children who have lost everything.

Shocked by the continuous complete disregard for human rights and children’s rights, the Foundation is putting its weight behind Caritas Malta and SOS Malta, two NGOs that are working on the ground to save lives and support all refugees.

“Millions of peaceful Ukrainians have been constrained to flee their homeland because of the war. It is nauseating to watch so many unaccompanied children seeking refuge thousands of kilometres away from their own home. The stories of children at risk of trafficking and other horrible dangers are reaching us every day,” the Foundation said in a statement.

Led by Eurochild president Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, the Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society reminded that all European countries, including Russia and Ukraine, were party to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and were obliged to safeguard children without prejudice and ensure they were safe from harm.

“We stand in solidarity with all the children and all vulnerable communities and the organisations working in Ukraine, on its borders and in surrounding countries to assist and support all refugees,” it added.

The Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society believes in peace for an aspirational, inclusive, just, equitable and eco-friendly society where all people may grow, enjoy a sustainable quality of life and engage in productive and meaningful relationships.

In such a society nobody was sidelined, and human rights and dignity were respected, it said, urging all those living in Malta to contribute through monetary donations to Caritas and SOS Malta.
