Full-time employment up nearly 4% in November – NSO

In November 2021, registered full-time employment increased by 3.9 per cent while part-time employment as a primary job increased by 5.9 per cent when compared to the correspond­ing month in 2020, the NSO said Wednesday.

Administra­tive data provided by Jobsplus show that, over a period of one year, the labour supply (excluding part-timers) in November 2021 increased by 3.1 per cent, reaching 244,512.

This was mainly attributed to a year-onyear increase in the full-time registered employment (9,165) and a decrease in registered unemployme­nt (1,722).

When November 2021 is compared to November 2020, the highest increase in employment was brought about by the constructi­on sector and the accommodat­ion and food services activities, with 1,313 and 1,153 persons respective­ly. Registered full-time employment in the private sector went up 8,149 persons to 191,618. Public sector full-time employment increased by 1,016 persons to 51,718. The number of persons registered as full-time self-employed rose by 1,115 when compared to November 2020, while the number of persons registered as employees increased by 8,050.

Full-time employment for males and females went up by 3.5 per cent and 4.5 per cent respective­ly over 2020 levels.

Registered part-time employment in November 2021 increased by 9.7 per cent when compared to the same month in 2020. Profession­al, scientific and technical activities followed by the accommodat­ion and food services activities recorded the highest increases in parttime employment with 999 and 789 persons respective­ly.

The number of part-timers who also held a full-time job amounted to 36,132 up by 13.5 per cent, when compared to the correspond­ing month in 2020. Employed persons whose part-time job was their primary occupation totalled 33,312, up by 5.9 per cent when compared to the same month in 2020.
