The National Development and Social Fund (NDSF) has announced the granting of a social solidarity contribution of €10,000 towards the Puttinu Cares Foundation fund-raising telethon held on Good Friday.

The Fund’s CEO, Raymond Ellul stated during the presentation, that this financial contribution by the Fund will help to alleviate the burdens of patients, as well as their families, who are going through difficult moments concerning their health. The NDSF has supported Puttinu Care’s latest initiative to acquire 21 apartments in central London to be named Dar Calvagna by means of a social grant of €5m. The Fund has also committed €100,000 towards assisting Puttinu rent apartments for Ukrainian

children seeking urgent medical treatment in the UK. Themed Home away from home, Dar Calvagna, named in honour of the late Dr Victor Calvagna, its founding member, will provide accommodation to any Maltese citizen who needs to travel to London for urgent medical treatment. Therefore, such patients and their family members, will not need to search and pay for their accommodation during the period of treatment. At present, between 60 and 90 patients travel to England for specialist care each month and most patients stay in central London.

The NDSF is a government agency established for the purpose of managing 70% of the contributions received from the Individual Investor Programme of the Republic of Malta. The aim of the Agency is to contribute towards major projects of national importance and to assist in projects and initiatives that are of public interest and that help promote endeavours in education, research, social aspects, innovation, justice and the rule of law, employment initiatives, the environment and public health.
