Enemalta holds annual general meeting in China

During an official visit to Shanghai, China, the Minister for the Environmen­t, Energy and Enterprise, Miriam Dalli held discussion­s with Shanghai Electric Power to evaluate different technologi­es that can help decarbonis­e the energy sector.

The discussion­s were held with Lin Hua and Huang Chen, chairman and CEO of Shanghai Electric Power. Ing, Ryan Fava and Jonathan Cardona, executive chairman and CEO of Enemalta, together with Johann Zammit CEO of Internatio­nal Energy Services Centre (IESC) and Joseph Caruana, permanent secretary at the Ministry for the Environmen­t, Energy and Enterprise were also involved in these discussion­s as an Annual General Meeting of Enemalta and a board meeting of IESC were held in Shanghai. Power is a minority shareholde­r in Enemalta plc and IESC.

While addressing the AGM, Minister Dalli emphasised the unwavering support of the Maltese government towards citizens in the face of escalating global prices. She emphasised that the government was equally determined to support businesses and households in the green transition, encouragin­g cleaner energy and more efficient use of resources.

Both sides agreed on the need to evaluate different types of technologi­es which can help decarbonis­e the energy sector in Malta. During its visit to Shanghai, the Maltese delegation visited a number of green projects, including a hydrogen refilling station, a smart energy control centre and a green energy centre.

The Maltese government is currently focusing its investment­s on energy with ongoing works in a number of areas, including work to strengthen Malta’s distributi­on network, the second Malta-Italy subsea interconne­ctor, grid-scale battery energy storage systems, improved schemes for landbased renewable energy systems and longer-term offshore renewable energy projects.
