Minister Borg meets with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of India, Subrahmany­am Jaishankar, in New Delhi

“The significan­t opportunit­ies in the field of trade between the two countries should be harnessed in the best possible way for the benefit of both countries,” stated the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg, during a bilateral meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of India, Subrahmany­am Jaishankar, in New Delhi, India.

Currently, there are 112 companies from India operating in our country, particular­ly in the pharmaceut­ical sector. Throughout the discussion, both sides expressed the need to explore further opportunit­ies, primarily in the financial sector.

Minister Borg mentioned that since 2024 will mark the 60th anniversar­y of the establishm­ent of diplomatic relations between Malta and India, it would be fitting for both government­s to commit to strengthen­ing this relationsh­ip and fostering more cooperatio­n across various sectors.

Discussion­s were also held regarding the relations between the European Union and India, as well as potential cooperatio­n on a multilater­al basis, also in light of Malta’s seat on the United Nations Security Council taking place.

During his visit to India, Minister Borg met with the Confederat­ion of Indian Industries to further discuss the potential for more business in our country and how Maltese companies can expand and grow their operations beyond our shores.

Minister Borg also had the opportunit­y to meet with the Honorary Consuls of Malta in India, who are spread across the country and expressed gratitude for the valuable and significan­t work they do for our country on a daily basis.

He also met with the Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi and Sister Marcelle Buttigieg, who has been engaged in charitable work in this country for many years.
