Cooperatio­n agreement in the tourism sector with the Republic of Korea

The tourism sector is a crucial pillar of Malta’s economy, albeit less so for the Republic of Korea. Therefore, during the official visit of the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg to Seoul, Republic of Korea, a cooperatio­n agreement was signed with the Minister for Culture, Sports and Tourism Yu Inchon to establish a framework for better collaborat­ion in this vital sector.

Through this agreement, an ecosystem will be created to facilitate tourism cooperatio­n, leading to increased tourist exchanges. It was also announced that this agreement would foster more significan­t data and promotiona­l exchanges and promote the participat­ion of both countries in important events. courage individual­s who focus on tourism promotions to visit each other’s respective countries and promote what their states have to offer.

Minister Borg emphasised the importance of Malta looking beyond traditiona­l European markets and continuing to expand its potential by opening up to markets that are further afield and seeking new opportunit­ies. Dr Borg mentioned that the number of visitors from the Republic of Korea is already promising and he believes that this agreement will lead to further improvemen­t. He also stated that Korean tourists are of high quality, and as a country, Malta must continue to invest to ensure that this economic sector continues to grow and yield results.

Minister Borg also held a meeting with the Minister of Justice and the Special Representa­tive of the President of the Republic of Korea, Han Dong Hoon, who recently visited Malta. Another significan­t meeting took place with the Minister for Oceans Cho Seung Hwan, who was accompanie­d by a number of representa­tives from shipping companies. During this meeting, the challenges and opportunit­ies in a sector that is vital for both countries were discussed, as well as potential cooperatio­n.
